'Foraging Foundations' workshop

Hello, here at Bedfords we've been picking things at the garden all winter - it's only been this month we've seen plants actually take a break and stop growing!

In any case, spring is imminent and so, to celebrate its coming, why not come down to the forest garden and learn about the wilder part of the garden?

There will be two 'Foraging foundations' workshops - one a week on Sunday 27th March 11am - 4pm. The other the following Sunday April 3rd also at 11-4pm.

These foraging workshops are for the beginner or the super excited novice.

What we'll do

  • Look at patterns in plants - A useful guide to identifying plants and much more.Learn about common poisonous plants/warning signs in general.
  • Develop a relationship with plants through sensory learning - using all of your senses to understand your plants.
  • Discuss the hazards/advantages of urban foraging.
  • Make a primitive digging stick and collection container -  handy tools.
  • Learn how to nibble like a rabbit and browse like a deer!
  • Roots and shoots.
  • Hopefully tap a birch tree for sap.
  • Take a small walk.

Food

There will be food and drink but not for any particular diet - please email or call in advance to tell us of any specific dietary requirements.

What you should take

  • WARM CLOTHES - standing outside for a couple of hours is okay if you're doing something vigorous but we won't be - be prepared for lingering winter temperatures.
  • Pen and paper/recording device - if you think it necessary
  • A bag - for collecting things
  • A bottle - for birch sap
  • Questions!
